Pye Flatts 19th June 2019

Thank you to Granville Danny Clarke, who invited us to his Wildlife Meadow, Pye Flatts at Hoylandswaine. The meadow is a registered SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Danny as usual made us very welcome, he was offering drinks to club members to raise a toast to two members Liz and Brian Parkhurst who have sadly passed away.

Liz was an encyclopaedia when it came to plants, on a club outing she could name any plant you was photographing. Also she was a very good herbalist, no need for doctors medicines with Liz. She was highly respected in the club, she was someone who always had time for you.

Brian was an excellent photographer having many years experience including teaching it at university level. Brian could give you the best settings for your camera without using the meter. As the President of the Camera club he always, when asked, gave his words of wisdom and guidance.

Everyone had an enjoyable evening, the weather was very kind to us. Although we’ve had a lot of rain, on our visit the rain had subsided with the sun making an appearance. The members headed in different directions equipped with various lenses from standard zooms to telephotos to macros. It was quite site to watch, with some following the insects, whilst others enjoyed the different flowers and others enjoyed the landscape. Everybody went home with very full sd cards in their cameras.

Celebrating Success at our Awards Evening 21 April 2008

We had a lovely celebration of a years photography yesterday evening and it was good to see so many people there to celebrate with us. My thanks go to Julie for making sure the hall looked like a restaurant with flowers and linen. To Nick for putting in the hard work on the slideshow and presentation. To Andrew for organising food and last but not least to Paul, who presented trophies, but who also made sure all those little jobs got sorted out at the beginning and end of the evening.

I was honoured to receive the Photographer of the Year Trophy for the second year running. The POTY trophy is awarded on the basis of marks received for all images over the year and though I didn’t get any firsts, I think what counted was that my twelve prints, submitted through the year, consistently scored high marks.

We weren’t all there to receive our medals and awards but those of us who were are here in this group photo. From left to right: Wendy, Ian, Darren, Paul, Robert, Clive, Nick. There were lots of other certificate winners too in the group and it was good to see people who are relatively new to photography doing well this year.  Click on an image to bring up the larger gallery view and slideshow.
